Principal's Update

Congratulations, we are about to enter the final week of the 2025-2026 school year!

A reminder, the Grade 9 students have their last PATs Monday and Tuesday of next week.

A family shared something with me very unique this week that I wanted to pass along to our community.  A student here, Theo, has a band nominated in the YYC music awards.  Theo is the lead singer and writes all the music for Per Velum, a metal band.  Per Velum is both the youngest band and the only metal band in the running.

The band is nominated for the Live performer and the People’s Choice Award.  If you want to learn more, you can visit yycmusicawards.com/nominees/  or click Calgary Music Awards - Per Velum for more information.

I am pleased to announce that after hiring rounds have wrapped up for the school year, I can confirm that M. Ryan, Mme. Jennefer, Mme. Laaouad and Ms. Rossum will all be returning to Vanier next year as permanent staff members.  Also, we will be welcoming back Mme. Emma, M. Yat and Ms. Gonsalves to the Vanier community next year.

We will, however, be wishing the best to Ms. Guevera and to Mme. Lambo as they move on to new positions within the CBE.

Finally, a reminder that report cards go live on Thursday, June 25. You can access them on your MyCBE account.

Bon weekend,

Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal École Georges P Vanier School

Vanier Fundraising Opportunity

We want to support our students and staff by raising money through CocoBrooks sales! We receive a portion of the money for every menu item - there are so many options to choose, not just pizza. This money will go to the GPV Parent Council and helps fund clubs, teacher and staff appreciation, supplies, and making learning FUN.

Camp Bonaventure volunteer opportunity

Between Friends is a Calgary-based non-profit organization that provides inclusive recreational and social programs for people with different abilities. Every summer, they host Camp Bonaventure, an outdoor summer day camp for youth ages 4–17 (June 29 - August 21, 2026) that brings together individuals of all abilities in a supportive and welcoming environment.

They are currently recruiting volunteers (ages 12+) to support us this summer at Camp Bonaventure.

This is a great opportunity for students to gain volunteer hours, develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, and build meaningful connections while supporting an inclusive camp community.

For families who are interested they can find more information, please visit:

Feel free to reach out to me and I can put you in touch with the team there as well.

June is National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour and celebrate the histories, languages, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. In alignment with the Education Plan, all people connected with the CBE are invited to deepen knowledge, understanding and relationships, to include Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing, and knowing across schools and service units. To support planning and engagement, check out these events. Everyone is invited and welcome.

City of Calgary Aboriginal Awareness Week: From June 15-21, the City of Calgary offers many events to honour Aboriginal Awareness Week culminating on Sunday, June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day. Everyone is invited to join the activities.

The Gathering at Moh'kinsstis: A one-day community gathering grounded in culture, connection, and ceremony to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday, June 21 from 11 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. at  ContainR Art Park & The Alexandra Centre (922 & 925 9 Avenue SE in Inglewood).

Heritage Park Celebration: A full day of community-led programming on Saturday, June 20, rooted in tradition. The centerpiece of the day is a vibrant Pow Wow, a powerful gathering that brings together dancers, drummers, and community in celebration of culture, identity and connection.

Grade 7 Free Telus Spark Visit

During our recent field trip to Telus Spark, Mme Anna found out that Grade 7 students can get free admission to the Telus Spark for a year. We wanted to share this information with our school community.  For more information please visit: https://www.sparkscience.ca/purple-galaxy

Calling All Crochet Supporters!

Our crochet club is already thinking ahead to next year! During our lunch hours, we're busy spinning, organizing, and carefully storing our wool so it's ready for another year of creativity and learning.

To help keep everything tidy and protected, we're looking for large plastic storage bins. If you happen to have an extra bin collecting dust in your garage, basement, or storage room, we would be grateful to give it a new home.

Donations can be dropped off at the school office.

Thank you for supporting our young crocheters and helping us keep the yarn adventures going! 🧵❤️
