Dear Vanier Families,
I want to start this update by sharing some exciting news from two Bow Valley College contests that Vanier students entered. This week Ms. Lambo and Mr. Park took three teams of students for the SCM Case competition put on by Bow Valley College and the University of Lethbridge. This contest was open to students from Grade 9 to Grade 12. One of our three teams ended up on the podium, finishing in third place! These students brought back a trophy for the school as well as a cash prize of $100 each.
Later this week, we received news that one of our students won the Bow Valley College creative writing competition that they submitted an entry to earlier this year. This came with a prize for the student as well as a new 3D printer for Vanier.
Thanks to Ms. Lambo for organizing these opportunities and congratulations to all students who attended or entered the writing contest.
A reminder that we are currently accepting applications for the Gary Weimann Award. There is more information below, but this is an excellent opportunity for students who are looking to better themselves and their community to access financial support for their goals. If students are interested, they should talk to Mr. Cheng or myself. The deadline to apply is May 30th.
Many of our Grade 9 immersion students returned late Wednesday night from Eastern Canada. I am glad these students had the opportunity to experience this trip and visit another part of our country. The feedback I have received has been positive, both from what the students got to do, as well as their behaviour. Thank you to Mme. Hosseini for organizing this trip and to Mr. Yay, Mr. Ryan, Mr. Perkins and Mme. Cindy for going.
In the coming weeks, numerous schools and students across the province will be engaged with a youth-led initiative around giving the Government of Alberta feedback on Youth Vaping Laws. Students from grade 8 and above are being asked to register to vote to give the government feedback on the laws that govern how tobacco and vapes are sold in the province (The Tobacco, Smoking and Reduction Act). If you believe your child may be interested in this opportunity, more information as well as voting instructions can be found here , or by visiting: https://www.youthdecide2026.ca/
Finally, a reminder to families that students are currently selecting options for next year. Please remember to visit your child’s MyCBE account to review these selections.
Enjoy the holiday and I look forward to seeing all the students back here on Tuesday, May 19th.
Bon long weekend,

Library Message from Ms. Peggy Goddard
Dear Parents,
As the school year is winding down, one of the important tasks for us is to collect all the outstanding books for our library.
All the books are valuable resources that belong to CBE to help students learn. In the case of lost or missing books, we will need to charge a fee for their replacement.
Our final due day this school year is May 29.
As part of the policy, we understand that the books are already in a used condition. Therefore, we will charge a depreciation fee based on its face value should your child not be able to return the book by the final due date.
We appreciate your understanding and help.
Sincerely,
GPV School
Outstanding Fees
Hello GPV Families,
If you have not paid fees this year, you should have received an Account Statement home Thursday of fees that you are owing. You can also see all the fees you owe to the CBE on your MyCBE account.
If you have paid fees since this Account Summary was printed, please disregard information on any fees you paid.
If you do not pay your fees, unfortunately we cannot offer option programs/activities/sports/field trips to students in the future or for the remainder of the year. These fees are in place so we can offer students several opportunities throughout the year. It is very important that these fees are paid.
There are several ways you can pay your fees. Online, Cash, Debit/Credit(at the school) or Cheque.
Our preferred method is of course Online Payments. This can be done through your MyCBE Parent Account. Please go to the website below for all the information about paying your fees using your MyCBE Account.
https://cbe.ab.ca/registration/fees-and-waivers/Pages/default.aspx
If you are unable to pay fees using your MyCBE account, please pay using one of the other methods. Debit/Credit can be done in person at the school. If you wish to send cash or a cheque made out to Georges P. Vanier School with your student to the Main Office, you can do that as well.
If you are unable to pay your fees, there are resources available to families. Please go to the website below for information regarding fee waivers.
https://cbe.ab.ca/registration/fees-and-waivers/Pages/Waivers.aspx
If you have any questions regarding your fees or the Account Summary you received, please feel free to reply to this email or send a separate email to myself Beth Gilkes at eagilkes@cbe.ab.ca and I would be happy to help any way I can.
