Dear Vanier Families,
I want to start out by congratuling our Grade 9 Band who successfully represented Vanier at the October 28 William Aberhart Feeder Concert! Not only was their performance fantastic, but they were on their best behaviour all afternoon. Ms. Ramos let me know that she was especially proud of the fact she saw our students staying off their phones and connecting with each other. It was a night of building community and celebrating the arts across all levels and students should feel so proud of themselves.
As basketball season winds down (playoffs are fast approaching), our wrestling season is starting up. For those students who have not tried out but want to join the team (it is a no-cut team), please have them connect with Mr. Cheng about the opportunity. This year we will also be hosting a meet in mid-November.
With winter approaching, we have been reminding students to dress to the conditions. As long as the weather permits, students will be going outside during lunch hour as well as for some PE lessons.
Finally, we hosted our second parent council meeting of the year. Our parent council is running a casino in December and is in need of volunteers. These fundraisers are a vital source of income for parent councils to help support resourcing Vanier. In fact, the last casino raised around $80 000 to support our students. If you are able to volunteer, please see the message from the parent council below.
To all those families going out for Halloween, please be safe and I will see all the students back here on Monday.
Bon weekend,
Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal

Learning Commons / Library Corner
To turn teenagers' favorite Halloween into a learning experience, our library will host a special presentation 'The Walking Dead' on October 28th and 29th during lunch hours. Ms. Peggy is going to introduce a bizarre Chinese custom in Hunan Province and make audiences think how fictions, tales and imaginations can create demons and monsters.
Many of our youth Lynx are looking forward to reading the French edition Bluelock mangas. Now the whole series is available. Additionally, My Hero Academia series French edition is also available.
Other French fictions we now have are:
- Monsieur Mechant-Garcon! (Chair de Poule series #1),
- Le Fantome da cote (Chair de Poule series #16)
- La dans L’aspirateur.
New English non-fiction:
- A Member of the Family, Body: the Complete Human- How It Grows, How it Works, and How to Keep it Healthy and Strong
- Bobama: the Historic Journey, The Story of Canada: the Epic Story of the Ture North Strong
- Free, Musicpreneur: the Creative Approach to Making Money in Music, and Opera in America: a Culture History.
We also have added a graphic novel of the classic Moby Dick, which is one of Ms. Peggy’s favorite stories, and The Wars by Timothy Findley.
We want to thank our Parent Council, as well as our book donors, who are our community friends and teachers, for their generosities, so we can continuously improve our collections.
Come explore our collections in the library. Everyone should find something interesting.
