Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx
I hope this second last update of 2024 finds you all well.
To start this message with some good news, I was informed the other day that staff and students at GP Vanier have considerably reduced the amount of waste we produce and are almost 50% below the targets set by the CBE!
For those families interested in donating to our Christmas hamper program there is still time. Mme. Cindy sent out an email earlier this week with a list of requested items you can reference, or please feel free to email her (cechin@cbe.ab.ca) if you would like to know any specifics items that are outstanding.
With one week left in the calendar year, we have been asking students to check the lost and found for items they may be missing. We have set it out on tables in the front hallway and are down to relatively few items. Families, if you are missing items, please feel free to come to the front office and have a look during school hours.
Next week at Vanier will be a holiday spirit week set out by our leadership students. Please look below for the schedule.
Finally, please check below for the upcoming dates of volleyball tryouts when we return to school in January.
Bonne fin de semaine,
Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School

Grade 9 High School Registration Update
Over the last couple of weeks, students and families were encouraged to attend some of the open houses and information nights. We also got to visit Crescent Heights with our designated students. In January, the majority of the high schools will have their open houses including James Fowler, Crescent Heights, Western Canada, Diefenbaker and more. Over the next month, your child's core teachers will be conferencing with their students about core course recommendations (ELA, FLA, Social Studies, Science and Math). This is a great opportunity to discuss goals, ask for support or set a plan to get an appropriate recommendation. Our teachers are keen to have their students start high school successfully including feeling confident with their learning, transitioning well, and making sure they pass their first semester courses. These are a critical factor for these conversations and recommendation. If you have questions or concerns, please connect with your child's core teacher or Mr. Cheng.
