Dec. 4-8 Update | Vanier Review, 50 Years of French Immersion, Library, Holiday Hampers, Sports Dates
Dear Lynx families/Chères familles de Lynx,
Welcome to December! We have a busy final month of the calendar year here at Vanier.
For those of you who would like to hear a student's take on the ongoings at Vanier, please ask your child to bring home a copy of the Vanier Review, our school newspaper. These are available both online or on paper. Thank you to Mme. Robinet for being editor-in-chief this year!
Thanks to all the parents who attended parent-teacher conferences (either in-person or online) last week. If you missed this opportunity to connect with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) please connect with them, and we can arrange a different time.
Also, parents, you should be receiving your next monthly update from your child(ren)’s teachers by the end of this week. This is a great source of information for you about what your child is doing in class, so please look it over. If you do not receive this by Friday, please contact your child’s teacher.
Finally, good luck to all of our wrestlers in their first meet of the season next week. A big thank you to Mr. Cheng, Ms. Brotherston and parent-volunteer Mr. LeMaro for running this team.
Bonne fin de semaine,
Chad Edmonds – Principal GP Vanier.
50 Years of French Immersion
The CBE is collecting names of staff who were present at the beginning of the FI program 50 years ago. Perhaps some of you were students in the Immersion program and became teachers in the CBE or you were in the program and are now parents / grandparents of a student who is currently learning French at Vanier. The CBE would love to get in touch and invite you to the 50th anniversary celebration later this year. If you are interested in this opportunity (or know someone who is and wants to connect) please let me know.
Our Georges P. Vanier School website has information as well: https://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/gpvanier/Pages/default.aspx
GPV Winter Spirit
For the month of December, we will be celebrating winter with a variety of activities. Please see the calendar with a list of events!
Library Reminders
Please remind your child to return or renew their library books. Ask your child if they keep their book at home or at school. Thank you!
Holiday Hampers
Hello Parents and Guardians!
It is time to start our 2nd Annual Holiday Hamper drive! Last year we were able to support 14 families in our community and we have a goal to beat that this year. As you may know this year has been difficult for some families and also hard on the agencies that support them. This holiday season many agencies are having to turn down requests due to lack of donation. We are so grateful for the outpouring of support during last year’s drive, it was great to see our school community come together. I’ve attached what goes in each hamper and it is each homerooms goal to fill 1 hamper! Of course, we have to put in some competition… the homeroom with the most points in each grade will receive a hot chocolate and cookie bar in the staff room the week before we leave for break. Our drive started last week and will go until December 7, 2023.
Thank you to our school community in advance for helping us support families in the community.
