Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx

A shorter weekly update this time around as we start winding things up before winter break.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge our student teachers who have finished (or are almost finished) their field placements.  Many of these students will be returning in February for their final placement before starting their careers and we look forward to having them back.

Our grade 8s enjoyed the day at the Journey 2050 field trip, learning about sustainability and agriculture in the province and the world.  Thank you to parent council for subsidizing the buses to make this a free field trip for the students.

Finally, it was wonderful to see some of our incoming students from our feeder elementary schools here on Wednesday for a winter concert put on by our band.  I spoke with some of the students and teachers after the show and they were very pleased with the presentation and many of the teachers were so proud to see how their previous students have grown.

I look forward to seeing the students back at school Monday.

Bonne fin de semaine,

Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School

Grade 9 High School Registration Update

Over the last couple of weeks, students and families were encouraged to attend some of the open houses and information nights. We also got to visit Crescent Heights with our designated students. In January, the majority of the high schools will have their open houses including James Fowler, Crescent Heights, Western Canada, Diefenbaker and more. Over the next month, your child's core teachers will be conferencing with their students about core course recommendations (ELA, FLA, Social Studies, Science and Math). This is a great opportunity to discuss goals, ask for support or set a plan to get an appropriate recommendation. Our teachers are keen to have their students start high school successfully including feeling confident with their learning, transitioning well, and making sure they pass their first semester courses. These are a critical factor for these conversations and recommendation. If you have questions or concerns, please connect with your child's core teacher or Mr. Cheng.
