Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx
Thanks again to all the families who volunteered their time to support the GP Vanier parent council at our casino fundraiser this weekend. With some last-minute volunteers, we were able to fill all the positions needed. The funds raised at events like this are a vital source of income to help support student learning at Vanier. I will be sharing some of these images and stories at an upcoming parent council meeting.
February 19 sees the return of our University of Calgary student teachers for their final placements before entering the profession. This month, these students will also be joined by 3 student teachers from Campus St. Jean (University of Alberta) and 2 more from the University of Lethbridge. I believe it is a real privilege to have these teachers with us and I am looking forward to welcoming them into (or back into) the Vanier community.
With planning for the 2025-26 school year underway, I am inviting all families to complete a short survey to give their feedback around school priorities and planning. If you would like to share your thoughts, please click here to complete the survey.
With Teacher’s Convention and Family Holiday we look forward to seeing all students back in Vanier on Tuesday.
Bonne fin de semaine,
Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School

Black History Month 2025: Explore, Learn, and Reflect with Curio
Reel Perspectives: Black History and Narratives In Focus
Film is a powerful tool for storytelling, reflection, and learning. This Black History Month, consider curating your own personal film festival experience by exploring films that highlight the richness of Black history, identity, and resilience. Free-to-stream films are available through Curio (for CBE staff and students), CBC Gem, and YouTube, offering engaging content for personal learning and enjoyment.
Some featured titles include Secret Alberta: The Former Life of Amber Valley (YouTube), John Ware Reclaimed (YouTube), Black Life: Untold Stories (CBC Gem/Curio), For the Culture (CBC Gem), Mighty Jerome (YouTube), and Summer of Soul (CBC Gem). These films highlight key moments in Black Canadian history, the contributions of Black communities, and the ways in which culture, heritage, and storytelling shape our understanding of the past and present.
Eastern Canada Bottle Drive
From February 18 to the 21 we will be running a bottle drive to support the Eastern Canada field trip. Please bring your bottles to Vanier to support the Grade 9 Quebec trip. You can also drop off your bottles anytime at the North Hill Bottle Depot located at 336 41 Ave NE #120 and request that the money is donated to GP Vanier 2025 Trip.
