Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,

I want to start off this message with a huge thank you to the students and staff who took part in our Late Immersion open house on Tuesday evening.  We had a massive turnout of families who are interested in attending Vanier for late immersion.  The feedback we got from families was overwhelmingly positive and I do look forward to many of these families becoming part of our community next year.  If you know of families that are interested in attending Vanier please do not hesitate to have them contact the school.

On Thursday morning we had our second practice lockdown of the year and CPS was incredibly proud of the students.   One of the officers made time to speak with me about the behaviour of our students and how they could serve as an example for others across the CBE.

As you are probably aware, beginning on Monday CUPE staff at the CBE will be on strike.  The CBE is providing updates and information for families.

If you have questions or want to know more about what the plan is with schools during this period, please visit this site.

Please note that the volleyball season will continue as scheduled, however, no student spectators will be permitted without a parent/guardian.  This is a CBE wide protocol and applies to games at Vanier and elsewhere.  Also, as schools are asked to be clear of students by 6 pm, please ensure that you can pick your child up immediately following the completion of the game.

Bonne fin de semaine,

Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School

Black History Month: Today’s Thought Leaders

This Black History Month, we celebrate two visionary thought leaders who are redefining transformative education, challenging systemic barriers, and shaping more inclusive learning spaces for future generations.

With over 40 years of experience, Enid Lee is a transformative educator, author, and leadership coach dedicated to creating equitable classrooms. Through works like “Letters to Marcia: A teacher’s guide to anti-racist education,” and “Beyond Heroes and Holidays: A Practical Guide to K-12 Anti-Racist, Multicultural Education and Staff Development,” she equips educators with strategies to dismantle systemic barriers. Recognized globally for her impact, she has received numerous awards, including Multicultural Educator of the Year (U.S.) and a spot among 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women.

Drawing from his firsthand experiences as an educator, Matthew Morris is an acclaimed author whose debut book, “Black Boys Like Me,” advocates for inclusive schools where all students thrive. His TEDx talk, “The Fresh Prince Syndrome,” and widely published writings challenge systemic inequities while offering practical solutions. A sought-after speaker, Matthew continues to drive conversations on equity and inclusion in education.

Both Enid Lee and Matthew Morris are educators that we can learn from as we continue to celebrate Black History Month. Their insights and transformative approach are essential to creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.
