Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,

We are well into Semester 2 now! Please ask your child if they need more paper, pencils, markers and any other school supplies they have used up since September. Thank you!

Thousands of teachers were inspired last week, through the workshops and keynote speakers offered at the annual Calgary City Teachers’ Convention.  CBE teachers spent these days in sessions targeting their responsibilities tied to the Alberta Education Teacher Quality Standard: Engaging in Career Long Learning.  It is vital for teachers to maintain current with the rapidly-changing world we live in, to seek, critically review, and apply educational research to improve practice. Actively participating in professional sessions allows teachers and administrators to build capacity to support student success in inclusive, welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environments.

Our Dodgeball Tournament was a tremendous success. Congratulations to the Crusaders with Mme Dunn, this grade 8 team climbed their way to the top! Thank you Mme Scholz and your Grade 9 Farewell Committee for all the work you did to organize this fun event.

Bonne fin de semaine,

Mme Laurelle Edmiston – Acting Principal Georges P Vanier School

School Planning Survey

This is the time of year in which each school principal in the CBE engages with families, and seeks input on our School Development Plan, Budget and Fees for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. I request that you review it carefully and provide your invaluable feedback through the survey, below.  The survey will take approximately 5-7 minutes to complete. Based on your responses, the school will make important decisions accordingly.

Thank you in advance for your involvement in the continual improvement of our school.

Yearbooks

Our 2023-2024 Yearbooks are now available for pre-order IN THE OFFICE. The cost of a yearbook is $30 each and will be added as a fee in PowerSchool once your child signs up in the office. This year, we are aiming for a spring delivery so students will be able to have their yearbooks signed by classmates and teachers prior to leaving for the summer!

New Fees Added

Please log on to your MyCBE account, as new fees have been assigned for Semester 2 Option classes.

Band Camp Grade 8 & 9 students

Ms. Ramos is looking forward to Band Camp with the grade 8 and 9 students on March 11 & 12 at Camp Horizon. This two-day and one night excursion will give students the opportunity to work with guest conductors. This will also include Clinics with specialized musicians. The MANDATORY parent meeting will be TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27 at 5:45, just before the Band Parent Association meeting. Looking forward to seeing you in person or online: Click here to join the meeting

AHS Parent Session- Vaping

Join the Alberta Health Services Healthy Schools and Population Health Promotion team on March 6th from 7-8:30pm for a virtual parent learning session on the youth vaping epidemic. In this session, parents will learn about what vaping is, current vaping trends among youth and the harms and risks associated with it.  We’ll explore what legislation is in place at the local and provincial level to combat youth vaping use and what you and your child’s school can do about it. Ideas on how to talk to kids and help them quit, as well as where to go for more information will also be covered. Have your voice be heard and your questions answered by an expert in the field.
