Dear Vanier Families,

Welcome to the start of 2026.    I am very happy to see all the students and staff back in the building.  We have already lost a few staff and students to illness, so just a quick note; If your child is not feeling well, please call the school at (403) 777-7460 so that we are able to update attendance.

A reminder to parents that semester 1 will end January 27 and semester 2 will start on January 28.  Students will be receiving updated schedules during that last week of January.  Please note that the CBE has delayed report cards until February 24 when they will be available on PowerSchool.

Over the past few years, we have had numerous students successfully complete exchange opportunities in France through the BelCanFran program.  This program will run once again, and they will be having an information evening January 17.  For more information, please see the notes below.

For parents who are interested in improving their French, Vanier will host a French for Parents – Level 2 class over the coming months.  More information is available below.

Finally, we will have our upcoming open house on February 4 at 6:30 PM.  This will be for English and French families.  We will be sending out invitations to our feeder schools in the coming week.  I always feel the best recommendation comes from friends and family so if you know of a family that is interested in attending Vanier in the coming school year, please feel free to pass along this invitation or ask them to contact the school directly.

Bonne weekend,
Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal École Georges P Vanier School

Vanier Community Corner

  1. Our crochet club has been hooking students in faster than we expected! It’s sew much fun—but we’re starting to run low on wool. If you have any extra yarn at home, we’d love a thread of support. Every ball helps us keep the creativity going!   The crochet club will also be selling some of their creations at lunchtime to raise money for more resources!
  2. Our growing Outdoor Education program is continuing to accept donations of outdoor equipment in good repair.  We are looking for:
    • cross-country ski gear (boots, skis, and poles)
    • snow shoes
    • daypacks
    • multiday backpacking backpacks
    • hiking boots
    • tarps
    • sleeping pads
    • sleeping bags

Please contact Mr. Eitzen at mdeitzen@cbe.ab.ca for more information.
