Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,
This week we welcomed two MLAs, Samir Kayande and Liz Tejada to GP Vanier. They spoke with all of our grade 9 students about the role of MLAs and the provincial legislature in Alberta. The students were engaged and asked some very intelligent questions of the politicians. The MLAs let us know they were equally impressed with our students.
The MLAs were joined by our Trustee, Laura Hack, who joined me on our tour of Vanier beforehand. For those of you who follow Instagram (@laurahack34), you can find a picture of Mr. Douma’s art room.
Over the next three weeks staff at Vanier will be visiting elementary schools around the city to speak about our late French immersion program. This will culminate in our open house for late immersion on February 20. We are not currently a lottery school so there is no end date for expression of interest forms into the program.
If you have friends or know families who are interested, please pass along this message and direct them to the registration information page. Alternatively, they can always reach out to myself or Mme. Cindy to arrange a meeting.
Finally, I wanted to leave you a note of thanks for Mme. Anna. She is expecting the birth of her first child and will be going on leave starting Monday. I wanted to extend my best wishes to her and her husband Trevor in this new adventure.
As Mme. Anna let grade 6 parents know on Thursday, we will be welcoming Mme. Jennefer Rousseau to staff. She has been working with Mme Anna all week to transition into the role. Mme. Rousseau has a myriad of teaching experience in her native province of Quebec, overseas and working with adults.
Bonne fin de semaine,
Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School
