Dear Vanier Families,

Welcome to the end of 2025.

I wanted to start this update with a few athletics updates.  First, the volleyball season starts after winter break.  Please see below for our tryout schedule.  Secondly, there is another message below about a flag football opportunity for Vanier students.  This coincides with the CBE looking at starting a new flag football inter school league to start this spring.

Our Holiday Hamper Drive was a tremendous success, and it truly reflected the generosity and spirit of our Georges P. Vanier community. This year, we were proud to support many families during the holiday season by providing non-perishable food items and essential supplies to those in need. Every contribution—big or small—made a meaningful difference.

A special congratulations goes to Homerooms 731 and 732, who were our winning classes with an incredible total of 250 pieces of non-perishable food donated. Their leadership and commitment set a powerful example of compassion and teamwork.

We would also like to recognize our Grade 6 students, who took on the responsibility of delivering daily announcements, helping to build awareness and momentum throughout the school. Their voices helped inspire action across all grade levels.

Thank you to all students, staff, and families who contributed to such kindness and generosity. We are deeply grateful together; we made the holidays brighter for many.

I hope that this holiday season you all find some time to connect with family and friends.   Please have a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to seeing the students back on January 5, 2026.

Happy Holidays/Joyeuse Fetes,

Flag Football

We are currently exploring the possibility of adding flag football to the list of inter-school sports that are offered at Vanier.  We are in talks with other CBE schools around creating a tournament later in the spring.  More information will be forthcoming on this as we learn more.

As we have a lot of interest in this sport at Vanier, as well as a football club sponsored by M. Kyle, I wanted to share an opportunity that is being offered by the Jr. Cardinals Football program.  Please see the attached poster for more information.

If your child is interested, please contact me and/or Mme. Dunn as we have 5 scholarships, we can use to support families with accessing this program.

Vanier Community Corner

  1. Our crochet club has been hooking students in faster than we expected! It’s sew much fun—but we’re starting to run low on wool. If you have any extra yarn at home, we’d love a thread of support. Every ball helps us keep the creativity going!   The crochet club will also be selling some of their creations at lunchtime to raise money for more resources!
  2. Our growing Outdoor Education program is continuing to accept donations of outdoor equipment in good repair.  We are looking for:
    • cross-country ski gear (boots, skis, and poles)
    • snow shoes
    • daypacks
    • multiday backpacking backpacks
    • hiking boots
    • tarps
    • sleeping pads
    • sleeping bags

Please contact Mr. Eitzen at mdeitzen@cbe.ab.ca for more information.
