Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx

This week we wrapped up our athletics season with a successful day at the Track and Field meet. Numerous students scored in the top 3, and in some cases, Vanier finished first, second and third. One of our students also set a new Calgary Middle School record for the high jump! Thanks to the almost 90 students who were part of our team, Mme. Dunn for spearheading this event and the other teachers and volunteers who were there to make this day happen.

Wednesday evening our junior high band also had their culminating event of the year with the spring concert. This was a wonderful chance for Ms. Ramos and her band to display their talent, and their growth over the year, to a full-house of parents, family members and friends. Our music numbers continue to grow here, which is a testament to the work Ms. Ramos does and to the support of the Band Parent’s council. If your child is interested in joining the band next year, please make sure that they choose that as one of their complementary courses or reach out to Ms. Ramos (chramos@cbe.ab.ca) for more information.

Congratulations to our grade 9 Kiwanis Youth Watch Award recipients this year. We are proud of the contributions these students have made to their learning community. As a staff, we nominate students who don’t only excel academically, but those who excel in community spirit, good community citizenship and are promising future leaders as recipients. Our recipients this year were Ben, Shae, Emmanuella, Malcolm, Ruby, Harris, Jayla, Callie, Jordyn, and Alaric. Students were presented with a certificate and a watch with their name engraved on it.

Bonne fin de semaine,

Outdoor Education Program

The Environment and Outdoor Education program at Vanier is looking for donations of used cross-country skiing equipment.  We will take any type of boots, bindings, skis, and poles – even old 3 pin binding systems.  We are trying to build up enough of an “arsenal” so that our classes can learn basic skills right in in the comfort of our own school fields during the winter.  For more information please contact Mr. Eitzen at mdeitzen@cbe.ab.ca.

IPP Update

Students with Individual Program Plans (IPP) should have now received their final IPP for the year. The update includes: how your child is doing in respect to their goals, transition notes and recommendations for how to best support your child in the coming school year. Please review the IPP and contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you have any questions. Signed IPPs should be returned to the main office by June 14, 2024.
