Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,

I want to start by thanking all the families, students and teachers for welcoming me back. It feels good to be back at Vanier, walking the halls and interacting with students and staff again. I want to thank Ms. Richardson for filling in for me while I was away, and Mme. Laurelle for acting as Principal during the same period.

It was a busy week to return to Vanier! Spirit weeks are in full swing as we head into spring break, more information is below as to what is happening. Also, happy Ramadan to all those students celebrating this holiday over the coming month!

A group of future French Immersion students came to visit and work with our current students on Friday. I had a chance to speak with our new immersion students and it was wonderful to see such a broad array of schools represented.

Our leadership students have started visiting both Buchanan and Mount View schools. They are working with younger students as mentors, reading buddies, creating relationships and setting an example for our future grade 7 students. Thank you to Ms. Kang and Mr. Petrowitsch for supporting this work.

I wanted to let all families know that a School Council CocoBrooks School Fundraiser Event will be communicated with them soon! Please check your email for more information. These events provide much-needed funding to support our students with costs for field trips, events and other opportunities that enrich our programming.

Finally, a reminder to all families that as we return from Spring Break (at the start of April) we will be going Away for the day, all day. This means students will not be permitted to have their phones over lunch. They can check them quickly while visiting their lockers, but they need to remain there. I believe the first few weeks back will be an adjustment for students, so we would appreciate your support in reinforcing this message.

Bonne fin de semaine,

Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School
