Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,

We had the pleasure of gathering as a learning community today for an assembly in the gym. We have a phenomenal group of students here at Vanier. Many exemplary students were recognized for their efforts in and outside of the school building. I enjoy connecting with students and hearing about their personal accomplishments, which sometimes include the heartbreaks too. Your children enjoy their sports, writing stories, reading (and rereading!) books, creating music, being with friends, learning how to do new skills like code on computers, and a variety of evening and weekend adventures. Our school is overflowing with students who are contributing positively to their communities, and as a staff we want their voices to resonate throughout the halls.

Our purpose as a school is to educate the next generation, not just in the fine arts, athletics or academia, but also in a more holistic manner. Learning both about and from each other is an essential part of public education and the diverse population of Calgary (and the world) that is represented at Vanier makes this an ideal, almost unique, place for this to happen.

We also continue to review the Seven Sacred Teaching. Last month classes learned about the Respect teaching which is symbolized by the Buffalo. This month we have begun Love like the Eagle. To love and be kind, caring and patient is represented by the eagle.

I encourage you to ask your child what their take-away from the assembly was today. Feel free to contact Ms. Richardson or me anytime.

Bonne fin de semaine,

Mme. Laurelle Edmiston – Acting Principal Georges P Vanier School

Our UPDATED Georges P. Vanier School website has information as well.

School Planning Survey

This is the time of year in which each school principal in the CBE engages with families, and seeks input on our School Development Plan, Budget and Fees for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. I request that you review it carefully and provide your invaluable feedback through the survey, below. The survey will take approximately 5-7 minutes to complete. Based on your responses, the school will make important decisions accordingly.

This dialogue video will also explain School Planning.

This survey link will ask you for your feedback.

Thank you in advance for your involvement in the continual improvement of our school. This survey will be open until March 7.

In this session, parents will learn about what vaping is, current vaping trends among youth and the harms and risks associated with it.  We’ll explore what legislation is in place at the local and provincial level to combat youth vaping use and what you and your child’s school can do about it. Ideas on how to talk to kids and help them quit, as well as where to go for more information will also be covered. Have your voice be heard and your questions answered by an expert in the field.
