Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx
I would like to start this weekly update by happily announcing that Mme Cindy was the successful candidate in our recent hiring process and will move from acting assistant principal to assistant principal. Please join me in congratulating her on the recent appointment.
A second congratulations goes to student Gemma Lew, who was nominated for a student recognition award by the Alberta Music Education Federation. These awards seek to recognize and assist deserving Alberta music students for excellence in music performance, and for utilizing their musical talents in active volunteer community service. Congratulations Gemma!
With badminton season wrapping up, we are fully now focused on the upcoming track and field meet on June 3rd. If any parents/guardians would be willing to volunteer, please let us know by contacting Mme. Dunn at madunn@cbe.ab.ca
Finally, I want to thank the staff and students who joined me on a very successful Eastern Canada trip over the past week. Our students were very well behaved and should be proud of how they represented themselves and our school. One of the things I was most proud of occurred during our visit to the sugar shack. A tourist from Belgium came up and commented to Mme. Laurelle and me how impressed she was to see students their ages, singing, dancing and interacting with one another. She was also overjoyed to see teenagers without their phones and having the opportunity to be kids. Over the course of the trip the students only had access to their phones for 15 minutes each night to call/text home and not once (at least to the adults on the trip) did they complain or ask for their phones, even on the bus rides between cities. They talked with one another, sang songs on the bus and interacted with their environment. Hopefully, somewhere along the way, they also made some memories that did not involve technology.
I wish you all a happy long weekend and I will see the students back at school on Tuesday.
Bonne fin de semaine,
Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal École Georges P. Vanier School

Overdue Books
Ms. Ana, our library assistant, is now beginning the process of cataloguing our current book inventory at GP Vanier. Teachers have been connecting with students to remind them to return any overdue items by the end of the month. If families could please remind their children to check for any overdue books at home, that would be much appreciated.
