Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,
This week both Mme. Laurelle and I had a chance to visit our grade 8 students during their stay at Camp Chief Hector. It was a great opportunity to see and interact with students in a different setting. The feedback we got from the students was overwhelmingly positive. They spoke about enjoying the opportunities on offer (especially the giant swing and the horseback riding). The teachers spoke about how great it was as a place and space for them to build relationships with each other and with their teachers. I enjoyed seeing students interact in person, between programs and without technology. The only constructive feedback I got was from students wishing they had time to do more of the activities.
We understand that opportunities like this only happen with support from families, both financially and through their time, and I want to recognize each of you for working with us to provide this trip for your children. I also want to thank Mr. Brown and Mr. Cheng for organizing and overseeing this trip.
While our grade 8s were at Camp Chief Hector, our grade 7 band went to Red Deer for a band festival. They received fantastic feedback, scoring at a level between good and excellent for their performance. Moreover, they received a perfect score for their behaviour and appearance, attaining the top score at the festival. The students should be very proud, and I am so pleased with how well they represented Vanier, Ms. Ramos and themselves.
Last but not least, our grade 9 students spent Monday and Thursday writing their English Language Arts and French Language Arts Provincial Achievement Exams. I spoke to numerous students upon their completion, and they were pleased with how they felt they did. Thank you to the staff and students who all pulled together to keep the hallways quiet, changed classrooms and worked collaboratively to support our grade 9s.
I hope you all have a restful long weekend.
Bonne fin de semaine,
Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School
