Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,

Our grade 9 eastern Canada trip students left this morning for Montreal. We got a text from them earlier today letting us know that students and their teachers were enjoying lunch along Rue St. Paul. I hope this group enjoys the experience and has a chance to put their language skills to good use.

Our badminton teams did Vanier proud at both the Senior and Junior levels over the past few weeks. Thank you to the coaches and the parents who went out to the tournaments, one of which went way past the allotted time. Coaches and officials running the events spoke of the great behaviour and great attitude of our players.

Closer to home, our school resource officer, Constable Shaw, wrapped up our mini basketball camp aimed at female junior high students. This is a great example of working with our community to support student engagement and offer programs that might not happen otherwise.

Finally, May is Asian Heritage Month and this is an opportunity for us to learn more about the diverse culture and history of Asian communities in Canada, as well as to acknowledge the many achievements and contributions of people of Asian origin who, throughout our history, have done so much to make Canada the country we know and love. The theme across Canada for Asian Heritage Month 2024 is “Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future: Amplifying Asian Canadian Legacy”. This theme celebrates the rich heritage and contributions of people of Asian origin in Canada while also looking forward to the future with optimism and hopefulness.

Bonne fin de semaine,

Outdoor Education Program

The Environment and Outdoor Education program at Vanier is looking for donations of used cross-country skiing equipment.  We will take any type of boots, bindings, skis, and poles – even old 3 pin binding systems.  We are trying to build up enough of an “arsenal” so that our classes can learn basic skills right in in the comfort of our own school fields during the winter.  For more information please contact Mr. Eitzen at mdeitzen@cbe.ab.ca.
