Dear Vanier Families,

As we finish our first full week post-strike, things really do feel like they are starting to move back towards normalcy in school.  That being stated, we are still playing catch-up, and teachers are rebuilding routines and relationships with students.  Some things that had been scheduled for the next few months will have to be cancelled or postponed until later in the year; this includes field trips and extracurriculars.  Please continue to monitor updates from the school, or your child(ren)’s teachers for more information.

For those aspiring student athletes, we will be restarting the sports calendar when Volleyball begins after winter break.

Today at Vanier we recognized Remembrance Day.  Thank you to the students and teachers who stepped up on short notice to create this event for the school.

Some of you may have heard from your children that we currently have 10 student teachers in the building: 2 from Campus St. Jean and 8 from the U of C (2 in the French program and 6 from the English program).  I am so proud that Vanier has been identified by the U of C as a hub for their education program and to all the teachers at Vanier who have agreed to be part of training the next generation of Alberta teachers.  These students will be with us on an abbreviated stint this semester and join us again in February for their final rotation in the program.

I would also like to let families know that fees have now gone live on MyCBE.  Please check your account to see what is outstanding.  As I stated in one of my earlier emails, many of the fees have been prorated or cancelled altogether due to the strike.  If you have already paid a fee, you should notice that this money went towards other outstanding fees.  If you have any questions, please connect with Ms. Gilkes at eagilkes@cbe.ab.ca

I have spoken to more than one family about the possibility of donating money to Vanier in order to support students.  Please see below for a message from Farouk Gillani for more information.

Just a reminder that CBE schools will be closed from Monday to Wednesday next week for fall break.  Students will be back in school on Thursday, November 13.

Finally, please join me in congratulating Mme Hull who welcomed a baby girl, Cassie, to her family.

Bonne weekend,

Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal École Georges P Vanier School

Message from School Council

Dear Vanier Families,

Over the past few weeks Mr. Edmonds has brought to my attention that many of you have reached out around the possibility of donating some or all of the money that the UCP government distributed to families during the strike.

In order to maximize this effect, the GP Vanier School Council is looking at collecting these as donations which we can then use to support student learning at GP Vanier.

We will be meeting for our AGM on November 28 at 7:00, where we can discuss this as a group, however, in the interim donations can be sent through Education Matters (follow the instructions at the education matters website and choose GP Vanier as the school) or directly to the GP Vanier School Council.

For more information, please contact me, Farouk Gillani, at: faroukgillani@me.com

Sincerely,

Farouk Gillani – President GPV School Council
