Dear Vanier Families,

Parent-Teacher Conferences

I wanted to start this week off with a reminder that next Thursday evening and Friday are dedicated to parent-teacher (and student) conferences.  These conferences give families and teachers a chance to connect about a child’s progress and set in place the next steps both at school and at home.  If you need assistance booking interviews, please contact Ms. Gilkes in the office either by phone or email (eagilkes@cbe.ab.ca) for more assistance.

You will book through your MyCBE Account. See instructions on our Parent-Teacher Conference page.

Safe Pick-up

For those of you who pick your child up after school you will know how busy 32nd Ave is near the end of the school day.  This will only get more congested as the weather shifts and snow and ice reduce both road width and traction.  We also currently have 10 student teachers,  which means both our visitors and immediate street parking are occupied.  We will be reminding students at school to be road aware when crossing after school, but if families could share this same message, that would be very helpful.  I want to keep all our students (your children) safe at school and this includes crossing the road at the end of the day.

School Council

A reminder that the Parent Council will be having their AGM this coming Tuesday at 7pm.  Parents are welcome to attend in person here at Vanier, or online via Microsoft Teams.  A link will be sent out early next week for this event.

Community Corner

Finally, we mark the return of Vanier’s “Community Corner”, where teachers can make requests for resources to help support our classrooms or extra-curricular activities.  Below you will find a message from Mme. Rousseau and the crochet club.  Her writing left me in stitches (pun intended).

Message from Parent Council

Dear Vanier Families,

Over the past few weeks Mr. Edmonds has brought to my attention that many of you have reached out around the possibility of donating some or all of the money that the UCP government distributed to families during the strike.

In order to maximize this effect, the GP Vanier School Council is looking at collecting these as donations which we can then use to support student learning at GP Vanier.

We will be meeting for our AGM on November 25 at 7:00, where we can discuss this as a group, however, in the interim donations can be sent through Education Matters (follow the instructions at the education matters website and choose GP Vanier as the school) or directly to the GP Vanier School Council.

For more information, please contact me, Farouk Gillani, at: faroukgillani@me.com

Sincerely,
Farouk Gillani – President GPV School Council

Vanier Community Corner

Our crochet club has been hooking students in faster than we expected! It’s sew much fun—but we’re starting to run low on wool. If you have any extra yarn at home, we’d love a thread of support. Every ball helps us keep the creativity going!

Healthy Hunger is Back!

We’re excited to announce our upcoming Healthy Hunger lunches!

  • December 12: COBS Bread
  • January 16: Booster Juice

You can now place your orders online through Healthy Hunger. Please remember that orders close 5 days before each lunch date, so don’t miss out!  Orders can be placed at: https://healthyhunger.ca/

Any lunches that are not picked up on the day will be donated.

Thank you for supporting our school and enjoying a tasty lunch or snack at the same time!
