Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,
Welcome all to the 2024-25 school year. I know many of you will have been receiving numerous emails and paperwork over the last few days, so I will do my best to keep this weekly update shorter and we will send home more information over the coming weeks.
To start, I would like to welcome all the new staff to Vanier. They are:
- Denae Delcourt – Learning Leader Grade 7 English Humanities
- Amelia Chen – Grade 7 English Math/Science
- Ryan Magbanua – Grade 7 French Humanities, Physical Education
- Shelly Richardson – Learning Leader Literacy and Learning
- Kristina Filipovic – Grade 9 French Social Studies and English Language Arts
All five have made seamless starts here at Vanier and I am pleased they are part of our community.
Over the next week, students will be starting their options classes. We will be offering option changes starting September 9. Forms will be available outside the main office with instructions on applying for an option change.
Finally, next Thursday September 5, we will be hosting our “Meet the Teacher” evening. This will commence at 6pm in our main gym. This is an opportunity to visit the school, meet Mme. Laurelle and myself, and meet with your child(ren)’s teachers.
Please continue to check your email for updates from the school, and your child(ren)’s teachers.
Have a wonderful long weekend and we will see the students back at school on Tuesday.
Bonne fin de semaine,
Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School

CBE Pride Week
The CBE prioritizes respect for diversity and creating welcoming, caring, respectful and safe inclusive environments for all students and families. Here at Vanier, we have honoured and recognized our unique community with events such as Pink Shirt Day, Orange Shirt Day and the recognition of Black History and Asian Heritage Months.
August 26- September 1 is Pride Week in Calgary, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. This year, the CBE and GP Vanier reaffirms our commitment to creating safe and caring learning and work environments for 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff.
Basketball Coaches Required
Part of what makes Vanier such a great school is the parent involvement. We have a team of volunteers who support learning, field trips and extra curriculars that allow us to run the programming we do. Currently, we are seeking a parent or community member who would be willing to coach our Junior Boys Basketball, Senior Girls Basketball and Senior Boys Basketball teams this year. Below you will find the commitment dates if you are able to coach. The season runs from September 11 – end of November. We have a Junior Girls Coach.
