Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,
This week saw two events occurring on Thursday: Orange Shirt Day and the Terry Fox Run.
I wanted to share some lines from the email the organizing teacher, Ms. Ramos, sent to staff:
“Thanks so much for an awesome Terry Fox Day! It was so cool seeing everybody gathered in the field wearing their orange shirts and beginning their route. The walk/run went smoothly overall and that couldn't have happened without your support.
Thank you Mabel and Sophia for supervising the runners and planning the route!
Thank you Marissa and Matt for coordinating volunteers and supervisors!
Thank you Leadership 9 students for organizing the fundraiser and mini lessons!”
I think it is important for students and families to know that days like this happen because of the collaboration of numerous individuals including students and their families.
In collaboration with the above message, a huge thank you to our school council and all the families who attended the meeting last Tuesday. Parents/Guardians, you are all members of this council by the fact that your children attend Vanier.
If you are interested in volunteering here at Vanier and do not yet have your volunteer clearance, please read further down this message for more information.
Finally, Monday is the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. Public Schools in Calgary will be closed, and students will return on Tuesday, October 1. For more information on the day, you can visit the Government of Canada Website
Bonne fin de semaine,
Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School

School Fees
We are currently working with the finance team downtown to set up this year’s fees for extracurricular activities. Once they are available, we will be sending out a message to families. For those families of our student-athletes, please know that your child(ren) will be able to get their jerseys and play in the interim.

Volunteering with GPV
Thank you to everyone that has completed the Annual Volunteer Registration Form in your Online Forms. If you have completed this form but do not have a police clearance and need a letter from Vanier OR if you do have a police clearance attached to a previous school (for example, those parents who completed this for their child’s previous school) please contact the office directly. Due to the large amount of online paperwork that occurs at school start-up, we want to make sure we deal with volunteer forms as soon as possible.
Once we get the communication from you, we will know to access your form and get you attached to our school or print the required letter so that you can complete your police clearance.
You can email either Lori Stotz ljstotz@cbe.ab.ca or Beth Gilkes eagilkes@cbe.ab.ca for more information.
