Friday, May 4, 2026 — Weekly Update
Dear Vanier Families,
It is that time of year when schools start preparing for the next school year. If your child(ren) are expecting to attend Vanier next year, you should have received an email this week welcoming new students to Vanier. If you did not receive this email and are expecting to attend Vanier next year, please reach out to the school and we will investigate.
In the coming week, students will begin choosing option courses in school. Families who would like to view or make selections from home will receive an email with additional information and instructions.
A big thank you to our school Trustee, Laura Hack, who came out to meet families at our School Council meeting last Tuesday. She spent over an hour speaking with our parent council and answering questions about the education system. If you would like to read her thoughts, the meeting minutes will be available on our website once published.
It is also the season for the Gary Weimann Award, and student nominations are due this month. Please see the note below for more information, or see Mr. Cheng during the day for assistance.
Finally, as we enter our final two months of the school year, you will notice an increase in the number of events at Vanier. Field trips, PATs, the Spring Concert/Arts Evening, Drama Production, Badminton, and Track & Field are all taking place over the final eight weeks of school. Please be sure to keep track of the information below, as well as updates from your child’s classroom teacher.
Bon weekend,
Mr. Chad Edmonds
Principal — École Georges P. Vanier School

It’s hard to believe it’s that time again, but I am pleased to confirm that applications for Education Matters Awards are now open.
Students at Georges P. Vanier School can now apply for the Gary Weimann Award for Community Service. As in previous years, the application deadline is set for Saturday, May 30, 2026.

1. Hall Passes
We are looking for interesting and unique items that can be used for classroom hall passes. For example, one class uses a rubber duck, while another uses a small hub cap.
These passes help minimize student traffic during class time and allow teachers to quickly identify which students have permission to be in the hallway and which class they are from.
If you have any items that would fit this purpose, please send them to the school — we would gladly put them to use.
2. Guitars
To support our growing Guitar class, we are looking for gently used guitars that could be used as loaners for students who would like to bring a guitar home.
Guitar cases would also be greatly appreciated.
