Weekly Update Oct. 2-6 | Truth & Reconciliation, Cross Country, GEM, Sports Dates

Dear Lynx families,

A reminder that there is no school this Friday as we recognize National Truth and Reconciliation Day. Students have completed activities this week related to this event and if you pass by the school, you will notice orange ribbons tied to the fence to symbolize the students that did not return home from residential schools.

Our cross Country Team had a great season! As a team we had some top five team finishes, including two individual first overalls, and many personal bests. The moment that I found most remarkable was during the final meet of the season. One of our runners was beginning to struggle in the final meters of the race, and there was concern that she may not finish. Seeing this, her younger brother, also a Vanier student, went out onto the course, took her hand and they finished together. While it is wonderful to (and we should) celebrate athletic success, I believe it is moments like this that make us stronger as a community and it is an example of the type of leadership that I love to see from Vanier students. Thank you to Mme. Aristou and Mme Suelzle for their work with the team over the season.

By now, parents should have received a monthly update from their child(ren)’s teaching teams. If you have not please contact your child(ren)’s teachers.

Finally, a big thank you to the school council. They had their first meeting of the year on Tuesday, and we had 28 parents attend both in person and virtually. To put this in perspective, this represents 5% of our student body! If you are interested in attending the next meeting, which is the Annual General Meeting, it will be October 25. Please stay tuned for more information.

Bonne fin de semaine,
Chad Edmonds – Principal GP Vanier
