Weekly Update Oct. 23-27 | Thanks Volunteers, Forms, Sports

Dear Lynx families/Chères familles de Lynx,

Thank you to all the volunteers who attended the grade 6 Field Trip to meet David A. Robertson last Friday at the Calgary Public Library for WordFest. Students had the opportunity to hear how this author is inspired to write his books, including the trilogy they are currently reading with the beginning book The Barren Grounds. As classes waited for their buses, they listened to Mr. Kyle read from the book when the author himself stepped in to finish reading the chapter. What a fabulous opportunity for all in attendance!

The Outdoor Education class enjoyed a hike in Kananaskis this week with Mr. Eitzen, Mme Dunn and 2 parent volunteers. While the day started wet, by the time the students hit the summit of Jewel Pass the weather was bright and sunny. Thank you to Mr. Eitzen for organizing this opportunity for our outdoor education students.

Congratulations to our Sr. Basketball teams who participated in the Diefenbaker High School tournament recently. Our Sr. Boys won the tournament and brought home the banner to Vanier!

The Vanier soccer season has wrapped up with both teams qualifying for the playoffs. The girls lost a heartbreaker in the final seconds of the semi-final to Colonel Irvine. While upsetting, they should be proud of how well they did all season and of the comradery they developed over the season under the tutelage of Mme. Dunn and Mr. Park.

Finally, this week has seen the startup of numerous clubs/extra-curricular activities: Gardening club; library volunteers; yearbook club; the Vanier Express (our newspaper club); diversity, awareness and student voice; and D&D. I strongly encourage all students to explore some of the different ways they can get involved at school, meet new students and teachers and make Vanier better.

Bonne fin de semaine,

Chad Edmonds – Principal GP Vanier

Sports Updates

Bonne chance to our sports teams, Go Lynx! Félicitations and congratulations to our basketball teams this week who have played some excellent games, in tournaments, against schools in our division. All CBE middle schools have set similar expectations for games that promote safety, respect, and a positive experience for all. They include:

  • All student spectators/athletes must be under the direct supervision of a designated adult
  • There are no in and out privileges for spectators
  • Student spectators without adult supervision will be directed by the hosting school administration to leave the building
  • All spectators - students or adults - are expected to cheer and support players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner
  • Disrespectful behaviours will be addressed by school administration promptly and may result in spectators being directed to leave the game and the school building
