Dear Lynx families/Chères familles Lynx,

With the upcoming break I have found myself reflecting on the first part of the year.  Our school has continued to grow with our student numbers around 560 and our staff numbers at 40 including all the facilities and support staff.

With the support of families, we ran a full slate of sports teams, something many schools larger than us did not.

We offered quite an array of clubs and extra-curricular activities including, but not limited to jewelry club, Jr. Doctor’s club, Zelda appreciation club, D&D, running club and chess and games club.  This does not include the lunch hours teachers have their doors open to support students with Math, ELA, FLA or other subject based tutorial time.

Our parent council’s fundraising work has allowed us to start a remodeling of our learning commons, to build up our outdoor education and Physical Education programs and to create more inclusive classroom environments with new stand-up and bike desks.

Our staff, often with financial support from the parent council and parent volunteers, have been able to take students on a variety of field trips for both core and complementary classes.

I continue to watch students become leaders, socially, academically, artistically and athletically; encouraging each other to be better and to make Vanier a place where students can find their place and thrive.

Needless to say, I am incredibly proud of the staff, students and the families that make up the Vanier community and I look forward to 2025.

Please take time over this winter break to connect with friends and family. I look forward to seeing everyone back at Vanier on Monday, January 6th when we return to class.

Joyeuse fêtes,

Mr. Chad Edmonds – Principal Georges P Vanier School

Grade 9 High School Registration Update

Over the last couple of weeks, students and families were encouraged to attend some of the open houses and information nights. We also got to visit Crescent Heights with our designated students. In January, the majority of the high schools will have their open houses including James Fowler, Crescent Heights, Western Canada, Diefenbaker and more. Over the next month, your child's core teachers will be conferencing with their students about core course recommendations (ELA, FLA, Social Studies, Science and Math). This is a great opportunity to discuss goals, ask for support or set a plan to get an appropriate recommendation. Our teachers are keen to have their students start high school successfully including feeling confident with their learning, transitioning well, and making sure they pass their first semester courses. These are a critical factor for these conversations and recommendation. If you have questions or concerns, please connect with your child's core teacher or Mr. Cheng.
